The Sustainability Managing Consultant plays a critical role in our growing ESG strategic advisory practice, driving sustainability impact and business value for Fortune 1000 companies. The Managing Consultant will be responsible for leading complex projects with leadership from Directors and Associate Directors and support from delivery teams. This role will have direct/indirect line management responsibility for other staff members. In this role, you will build a client portfolio and client relationships with support for the Director and contribute proactively on setting standards in client service and quality, as well as proactively building team capabilities, skills and culture and growing Corporate Citizenship’s intellectual property and reputation.

Job Description


  • 7+ years of relevant experience in sustainability consulting, in an in-house corporate sustainability role, or other experience clearly relevant to the role
  • Demonstrated experience managing client relationships and project teams, including direct supervisory responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to the development and execution of corporate sustainability strategies, baselines, initiatives, ESG ratings and rankings, and/or reports that align with business goals and budgets
  • Ability to accurately recognize the strategic challenge a client is facing, and scope and contribute to executing client engagements that deliver value and impact
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion for and commitment to engaging business in building a sustainable and inclusive future
  • Masters degree or equivalent experience preferred; 4 year degree in sustainable business, business administration, international relations or related field required


Consulting & Business Development

  • You will be the client lead for a small number of clients, managing projects of medium to high complexity. With Director Support, you will ensure objectives, deadlines and budgets are met; monitor and proactively manage client relationships and satisfaction as well as team relationships. Define project scope and accurately allocate and manage resources. Review and predict potential issues, and address them proactively. Interpret data into a clear and compelling narrative for clients. Organize client workshops and present project analysis and recommendations to clients
  • You will coordinate research activities to secure new clients and develop service offerings. Network widely to develop new business opportunities. Take part in all stages of the sales process. Contribute to the reputation and positioning of CC in the market as a thought leader through external communications, e.g., speaking at conferences, writing editorials, social media articles, blogs

Expertise & Thought Leadership

  • You will promote CC culture and a shared vision across the organization. Translate corporate goals into functional and individual goals. Create an atmosphere of people care, dignity, positivity, inspiration and fun. Manage, develop and appraise others, providing coaching and mentoring to build knowledge and capability in others. Lead on one or more cross-CC initiatives. Provide learning opportunities to the wider CC team, e.g., facilitation of internal workshops
  • You will have recognized expertise in at least one CC service line, developing new business and thought leadership. Influence business thinking and agenda in one or more sectors. Proactively contribute to knowledge-sharing on that subject, both internally and externally

  • Building Reputation: Building reputation externally as a subject-matter/sector expert; experience in speaking at external events and writing specialist articles and blogs
  • Consulting Process: Demonstrated experience and ability at all stages in the consulting process, including sector development and sales. Excellent client management skills

  • Project Delivery: Strong strategic-thinking skills; able to see the bigger picture and to recognize and act on the wider ​implications of actions.
