In the current economic crisis, skills-based volunteering offers a means to make a high-impact and sustainable contribution to the community, when cash contributions are being squeezed. However, effective partnerships have been sporadic, focused on larger voluntary community organisations and run by businesses that are predominantly London-based. This report looks at the business case for skills-based volunteering. It also shows that local and regional brokers have the positioning in the community to foster sustainable skills-based partnerships, and outlines the rationale for investing in projects that help these brokers exploit their unique advantages.
