Overview

Reporting on environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance, in addition to economic performance, has become a mainstream business practice that is expected by markets. Investors in particular are paying increased attention to these disclosures. However, for many companies, reporting credible, comparable and consistent data in a timely manner can be a challenge.

External third-party assurance and verification can help to address this challenge; assessing and confirming the accuracy and completeness of data collection, management and reporting.

By doing so, it serves to build trust and credibility, providing an organisation’s stakeholders with confidence in the information being disclosed, and reflecting the seriousness with which a company manages its data and values data accuracy. This, in turn, builds trust in a company’s governance and management.

Good assurance also provides useful management information that strengthens reporting systems, company performance and the quality of disclosures made.

How we support our clients

Corporate Citizenship combines over two decades’ experience of advising companies on responsible and sustainable business practices, with a rigorous approach to value-added assurance, across the following areas:

  • Sustainability/ESG report assurance: including the assurance of the qualitative sections of sustainability reports, as well as the ESG indicators disclosed within the report.
  • Environmental data assurance: including GHG emissions, energy, waste and water data.
  • Social data assurance: including health and safety, employee and community investment data.

Our assurance process is aligned to meet the International Standard on Assurance Engagements (ISAE) 3000, which provides a strong but flexible system of assessment. This is used in conjunction with relevant standards and frameworks, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and AccountAbility’s AA1000 series, to provide credible assurance under best practices and meet our clients’ needs.
