Corporate Citizenship supports our clients to gather and assess the information required to develop environmental strategies and manage impacts.

Environmental Management

We help our clients demonstrate good environmental management to key stakeholders, by quantifying their environmental footprint.

This provides a robust baseline against which we can assess eco-efficiency measures and set reduction targets. Supporting processes can be developed to govern and monitor progress and integrate environmental data into business functions (e.g risk, capital planning, corporate strategy).

Examples of what we deliver:

  • Environmental performance review, assessing current reporting process and practices.
  • Environmental footprint calculation, quantifying environmental impacts.
  • Environmental management system development, establishing processes to manage performance.
  • Impact mitigation modelling and conducting options analysis.

We help our clients define the goals and communicate a commitment to manage environmental impacts.

We engage with the business and its stakeholders to identify the most important material environmental issues. The output informs the development of strategic goals and, importantly, how these are aligned with the core business strategy. Each goal is supported by targets and metrics based on level of ambition, available capital and reduction capacity. To enable implementation, the strategy must be governed by suitable systems and processes that can assign responsibility, manage data, assess risk and appraise investment options.

Examples of what we deliver:

  • Peer assessment review, including competitor best practice and performance.
  • Environmental materiality assessment.
  • Environmental strategy framework and implementation roadmap identifying short, medium and long-term actions.

We help our clients integrate environmental data with financial performance data, assess reporting requirements, streamline data collection and develop data analytics.

We offer support to develop top-level indicators and metrics linked to objectives, and cascade these throughout the business. Relationships between indicators are identified in a ‘data-map’ enabling more efficient reporting. This is used as a blueprint to adapt existing systems or customise sustainable performance management (SPM) software tools. Data visualisation requirements can also be identified, to allow automated and standardised outputs to efficiently feed into decision-making.

Examples of what we deliver:

  • Data gap analysis to review reporting requirements.
  • Data mapping to define data structure for customisation of existing systems and reporting software.
  • Data analytics and visualisation, automated visualisation of performance against strategic commitments at group, site and/or asset levels.

We help our clients calculate the financial value of environmental initiatives and develop a compelling business case for investment.

The outputs can be used to appraise investment options, inform resource allocation, and optimise the balance between impact reduction, strategic importance and capital requirements. It requires the integration of environmental and company finance data.

Examples of what we deliver:

  • Options appraisal through calculating DCF (discounted cash flow) or ROI (return on investment) from environmental investments.
  • Quantification of financial impact from environmental risks and opportunities.
  • Impact pathways for integrated reporting, linking environmental and financial performance data.
