Laura Coomber

Researcher, London
Background:
I started with a BSc hons in biological sciences, focusing on environmental science and ecology. Following this I completed an internship in the Peruvian amazon where I learnt about key issues in conservation and carried out my own research project on above-ground carbon storage. I then completed my MSc in Environment and Development, which focused on connecting the social sciences to environmental issues in the context of international development. For my thesis research, I carried out field work in the Peruvian Amazon where I worked with local people to understand issues facing a specific land governance policy. I then returned to Peru to work for an NGO focused on conservation where I worked on all areas of marketing and fundraising. As such, I have an understanding of both social and environmental issues, along with hands on experience in the field.

Person I most admire:
Malala Yousafzai – I admire her incredible resilience in the face of adversity.
