Impacts: Called to account

We’re in the middle.

In the UK we’re slap bang in the middle of the electoral cycle. The beginning of November marks the mid-term point of the 2010-2015 Parliament?

So what?

Well we are at the point when coverage of politics is most concentrated on individual issues and least on the big picture.  Planning, pensions, trust in the police these are the big issues.  Come May 2015 there will be only one question: overall, taken in the round, all things considered what do you make of the government?

There’s a lesson here for corporate reporters.

Companies have got good at setting out their stall on individual issues.  Environment – we have measures; supply chain we have a programme; community – we have a target and so on.

Very good.

At the end of the day though that’s not the point.  As with politics it’s the big question that matters.

Is the overall impact of your company good?

Reporters need to think about that.  Cut back on the detail about the busy-ness of your business.  Let us know what its impact is.
