MATERIALITY 4: MATERIALITY AND CHEAP BEER

Jan 21, 2015 | Blogs

Here’s how I decide where to go for my holidays:

Cheap beer. Big breakfasts. Good views. Short flight. Good public transport. Catches my eye in the newspaper. Interesting historical background. Hotel in town centre.

So now you know!

No, of course you don’t know! I have told you what I consider. I have not told you how I decide. I have not described the process.

Too many companies present their decisions on materiality giving the what but not the how. It’s a case of: tell the reader what factors you’ve considered, then HEY PRESTO!, show them your materiality matrix.

Not good enough.

We learn as much from the company about the process it uses, as we do from what it has considered.

Process is what we’ll look at in my next blog.
