MATERIALITY 6: LESLEY GORE’S IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTION TO MATERIALITY
Hi there kool kats! Here’s my last materiality blog! It’s going to be F-A-B!
Oh dear. I do sound like a sad sixties leftover.
Why?
Blame Lesley Gore.
One of Lesley’s big hits was It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to. That’s got a tone of defiance. It conveys determination. Increasingly that’s what materiality requires.
Monitor external trends. CHECK
Consult external stakeholders: CHECK
Engage with the business. CHECK
Full description of the process. CHECK. AND CHECK AGAIN
That’s the journey.
The destination means saying: “We have done the materiality exercise. We have made decisions. Like it or lump it this is what we think and why. We are acting on our decisions.”
Increasingly materiality is about taking more ownership of the issue.
Get on board with that.
Or you’ll look as silly as someone doing The Twist.
Hmmm. Maybe I am a sad old sixties leftover.
