Gender pay: You have been warned

Jul 25, 2017 | Blogs

The BBC is a communications organisation.

Or so I once believed.

The row over the BBC gender pay gap has led me to doubt this.

The BBC knew about the gender pay disparity. The BBC fought the government pressure to publish. One thing the BBC did not do. That was to prepare a story that might convince the public that it was  acting effectively to correct the abuse.

A common response to this has been just to laugh: “The BBC has got itself into a hole. Ha! Ha! Ha!”

A number of British companies would be unwise to join in the laughter. They are about to be forced by law to publish their gender pay ratio.

The gender pay gap figures may be worked out.  How many have worked out a story to go with the numbers?

I only ask. Honestly, I only ask.
