Maria-Jose Subiela

Regional Director, EMEA
Areas of Expertise
I am an experienced project director specialised in responsible business, measurement, and benchmarking, with a strong understanding of global sustainability trends and plenty of hands on experience on international community investment. For instance, I led the creation of the Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Tracker, a measurement tool aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and designed for companies to measure their performance. Background:
I started my career as an Argentina lawyer. I came to the UK to study Public Policy and Administration at the London School of Economics. Since then and for the past 16 years I’ve supported companies across industries in developing and implementing their global responsible business strategies. I worked across sectors and across the responsible business agenda, more recently campaigning and practically supporting businesses on faster and bigger business action on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. As part of my international work, I developed community partnerships between NGOs, government and companies in more than 20 countries. I have a passion for influencing and supporting others in making a positive contribution to society.

Client and Project Experience:
Working with global businesses, I’ve run initiatives on responsible investment, supply chain, corporate purpose, and responsible banking. Some of the global businesses I worked closely with over the years include Anglo American, ARM, BNP Paribas, Citi, Credit Suisse, Disney, Experian, Deloitte, DLA Piper, Experian, Federated Hermes, Fujitsu, GSK, Hilton Hotels, International Hotel Group, KPMG, Linklaters, Lloyd’s of London, Morgan Stanley, Rolls Royce, Santander UK, Walgreens Boot Alliance, UBS, Unilever, UPS.

Person I most admire:
I most admire those who dare to create something new, dare to fail and try again and bring others with them to make this a better world for all. I look up to people like Amina Jane Mohammed, the current Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
